As one of the very first wine shops in Montalcino, Enoteca la Fortezza was founded in 1980 by Mario Pianigiani and Marzio Giannelli, uniquely positioned inside the main tower of the medieval fortress of Montalcino.

Mario and Marzio had intuitively understood the economic future of the village already at a time where only 25-30 producers were bottling their own Brunello di Montalcino. Enoteca la Fortezza became in the coming years the main showroom for this famous wine and the place where everybody could come and taste and buy the wine.

In 2002 Enoteca la Fortezza was passed on to another Montalcino man, Fabio Tassi. Fabio has since, with great enthusiasm, taken up the challenge and continues to have the most vast selection of Brunello di Montalcino together with other important wines, mainly from Tuscany, making his wine shop a very important oenological reference for Montalcino and for Tuscany.

Through these relationships created over time we can provide you, our customer, quality wines with simple and clear recommendations.
