Why should I buy wine from Enoteca La Fortezza di Montalcino?

While we understand there are many online wine shops to choose from, our President Fabio Tassi has 20+ years of working directly with the producers in Montalcino. Through these relationships created over time we can provide you, our customer, quality wines with simple and clear recommendations. Our goal is to give you the best wine experience Montalcino has to offer at a price that makes you feel comfortable.

Is there a minimum order required?

As we want to be sure that the wine arrives safely to your house we choose to ship in designated shipping boxes. These boxes are available for 3, 6 and 12 bottles for regular size wine bottles (750 ml). This means that an order has to be of minimum 3 bottles when ordering 750 ml bottle size. If you would like us to send magnum, double magnum or 5 litres bottles, that is possible as well. For these sizes there is a minimum of only 1 bottle.

Do I have to buy a full case of the wine I want?

No, you can mix completely as you please, even if this means that you in one case will have 12 different wines… We do recommend though that you consider what you need the wine for – it would not be good to buy only one bottle of a certain wine if you would like to serve it at a dinner for 8 persons…

Are there discount for cases?

When buying 2 cases (24 bottles) you will receive a discount of 5%.
When buying 3 cases (36 bottles) you will receive a discount of 7%.
When buying 4 cases (48 bottles) you will receive a discount of 10%.
When buying 5 cases or more (60+ bottles) your discount will be 15%.

The discount is applicable only on the total price of wine, not on the shipping charges.

Please be aware, that at the moment our payment system through PayPal is not able to handle discounts automatically. This means, that the discount will be refunded to your credit card only in a second step, i.e. after we have received your order and checked that everything is available an eventual refund will be made through PayPal. You will be notified of the refund (amount and date) by e-mail.

How can I get recommendations on which wine to buy?

Where recommendations are not already available on our web site, you are naturally more than welcome to contact us to get help on choosing. All employees with customer contact have been working in the wine business for years, which means we are capable of helping you picking exactly what you need.

How are gift certificates redeemed for purchases?

To redeem a Gift Card, all you need to do is find the item(s) you would like to receive and put it/them in the cart.

Select PayPal as payment option. Enter your account. You need to have a PayPal account or register to get a PayPal account in order to use the Gift Cards.

When you are being asked during the payment process, enter the Gift Card number that you have received and follow the procedure to redeem the Gift Card.

Will there be taxes or duties to be paid to release the wine in customs?

There are taxes/duties to be paid to release wine shipped into Canada and Australia. Regarding shipments to the United States and Europe there are no taxes or duties to be paid at arrival of the wine, e.g. when you conclude your order by paying the amount for the wine and the shipments, you have paid everything (except naturally in the case of Canada and Australia).

Legal Age

By using our website you represent to us that you are of legal age as per the rules in your country. Enoteca la Fortezza is not allowed to sell and ship wine to persons that are not of legal age and/or (but not limited to) intoxicated persons.

Legal Age Requirements for USA

We can sell and deliver wine on the American market only to a person who is at least 21 years old. By placing an order on our web site you represent to us that you are at least 21 years old and the person to whom the wine will be delivered is also 21 years old. At the time of delivery any shipment containing alcoholic beverages will by law require the signature of an adult possessing a valid ID issued by a government agency proving that he or she is a least 21 years old. If no one of legal age is available to receive the delivery, a note will be left with a contact phone number for you to call and make agreements for a subsequent delivery. No deliveries will be made to a visibly intoxicated person. We recommend that you use a business address to assure fastest delivery time. Should it not be possible to make delivery to a person of legal age and you do not make agreements with the carrier of a second attempt, the shipment will be returned to us. For re-delivery you will have to pay the costs for a second shipment attempt.

Wine Store Shipping

Are there any restrictions on shipping wine to the United States or other parts of the world?

Yes, unfortunately there are still many restrictions on shipping wine to the United States. According to the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB) you can import alcoholic beverages into the United States on a one-time basis for personal use without possession of import license (see more on www.ttb.gov). However, each state has it's own rules regarding direct shipping and/or importation of alcoholic beverages which must be followed, in many states it is even prohibited. If you live in the USA and would like to purchase some of our products, please send an e-mail with your request to info@enotecalafortezza.com and we will let you know if it is possible to ship into your state of residence.

With the current US State laws we are prohibited from shipping directly to the following states:

    How much does it cost to ship the wine?

    The shipment prices covers shipment, packaging and delivery, the wine is not included.

    The prices for shipment in Europe are:

    6/12 bottles: 60 euro
    18 bottles: 75 euro
    24 bottles: 95 euro
    30 bottles: 110 euro
    36 bottles: 125 euro
    42 bottles: 140 euro

    These prices are for groupage shipment, i.e. delivery in 10-15 business days from acceptance of the order.

    If you would like to do an express shipment, please contact us to know your shipping price.

    Please be aware, that at the moment our payment system through PayPal is not able to handle different shipment prices automatically. The shipment price payable when placing your order is based on the shipment price calculation of 48 bottles for the US because this calculation will cover most markets around the world. This means, that an eventual difference in payable shipment price will be refunded to your credit card only in a second step, i.e. after we have received your order and checked that everything is available, the refund will be made through PayPal. You will be notified of the refund (amount and date) by e-mail.

    What is your shipping policy?

    The wine is always shipped in designated shipping boxes made for that particular purpose – this guarantees the safest journey for your wine. We ship by air (or truck within Europe), which means that your wine arrives in 3-4 business days or 10-15 business days, depending on the type of shipping you have requested, from when we hand it over to the shipper until you receive it at your door. Should a bottle break during shipment you will have a replacement bottle shipped (at our expense) when this is possible, otherwise you will be refunded the amount that you have paid for that bottle.

    When is my wine purchase shipped?

    Your wine is normally shipped within 1 week from being purchased, unless you specifically ask us to wait with the shipping. You can notify about waiting by calling us or sending us an e-mail.

    Is my wine shipment and delivery insured? If so, for what amount?

    Your wine shipment and delivery are insured for the full amount of purchased wine. Should your wine arrive broken we will send you a replacement bottle. Is this not possible (e.g. collectors item where we had only one bottle), you will have your money back. The insurance trouble will be taken care of by us and you will not have to hazzle to get your money back. You only need to send us a dated digital photo showing the broken bottle(s) - with the label shown on the photo - and the shipping box for our further use.

    What is the policy on adverse weather and temperature related damage?

    If it is obvious that the damage has been caused due to negligence from our part, you will be indemnified.

    Wine Storage

    How long can you store my wine before delivery?

    We can easily store your wine 2 months before delivery. Should you need longer storage please do not hesitate to contact us and we will find a solution.

    What are the conditions of the storage facility?

    We will store your wine in the same storage facilities as are used for our wine. This means: lying down in the boxes in which they are consigned from the producer and in store rooms mainly situated under earth (temperature and humidity are steady).

    How much does it cost to store my wine?

    If you only need us to store it for max 2 months, you will not be charged a storage fee. Should you need longer storage there might be a fee applicable, depending on the longevity of the storage.

    How much notice is needed to ship my wine from storage?

    We only need one week of notice before starting to ship your wine.

    Is my wine secure and insured while it is in storage?

    Yes, your wine is secure and insured while stored by us.
