Benvenuto Brunello  
February 19-22/2010 "Welcome Brunello"...!!! - the famous event that welcomes the new vintage of Brunello di Montalcino to the market. Every year the event took place over 4 days at February in which period journalists and people from the wine industry worldwide came to Montalcino both to taste the new vintage and to know the evaluation of the latest harvest. The pubblication of the stars given to the new vintage can also be seen on the Tile made by the american designer Adam Tihany. The vote given is communicated with "help" from a celebrity person from the world of art or show, that has been given the task of painting the "Tile" (persons like painter Sandro Chia, designers Roberto Cavalli and Miuccia Prada, photographer Oliviero Toscani have painted the Tile). The outcome of this design task is completely of the person's discretion, but the number of stars given and the vintage itself must be evident on the tile. The tile is fixed on the walls of the old Town Hall, head office of the Consorzio del Vino Brunello di Montalcino during a small ceremony.The two first days of the event was as always completely reserved for the press and industry people having received an invitation from the Consorzio del Vino Brunello di Montalcino. Apertura delle Cacce / Sagra del Tordo
August 14-15/ 2010 October 30-31/2010 These two events are probably the two that awake most emotions in the people from Montalcino! During the second weekend of August (Apertura delle Cacce) and the last weekend of October (Sagra del Tordo) the four quarters of the village are competing in an archery competition. The whole week up to each of the two weekends each quarter is holding dinners for its members and people from outside that wish to participate, and the village is dressed for the occasion with flags hanging in every street. During the day and night groups of young people from each quarter are having "singing contests" where they meet in the main square and sing songs about the people from the other quarters... On Saturday the archery competition is having its test, and already here the whole village is present to see who has the best archers. On Sunday is the "real thing" where after the competition many people cry - either because their quarter has won or because it has lost... The winning quarter will be having a big feast Sunday right after the competition, not stopping until early morning. The other three quarters will go back to their premises to discuss and some of the members will be send around in the streets to take down the flags - Monday morning there will only be the flags of the winning quarter in the streets of their territory. The Jazz & Wine event has grown in importance since the first year it took place, 1998. The event is celebrating the good mix of Jazz music and fine wine and is taking place inside the courtyard of the Fortress and at the Castello Banfi.
