Shipping Policy

The following policy concerns all national and international shipments of wine, that are initiated by Enoteca la Fortezza di Montalcino. If you want to come and pickup the wine yourself at our shop, this shipping policy is not applicable.

If you need to ship wine into a country that we are not allowed to ship into or ship in a way of your own choice, unfortunately you have to do the arrangements with the carrier yourself. We will however be happy to help you having the wine arrive to the Italian port of your choice for your own further shipping. This kind of shipping is completely at your own risk.

We are very devoted to ensuring that your wine arrives safely at your door. Therefore we have chosen the following shipping policy:

• Mix of sizes of bottles: you are of course welcome to order different sizes of bottles in the same order. However regarding the shipment, in the same shipment box it is not possible to mix sizes. This means that for 750ml bottles you need to order 3, 6 or 12 bottles, for magnums you can order the quantity you would like (1, 2, 3, ...).
• Quantity: to ensure a safe trip for your wine we ship only in boxes made especially to protect the bottles. These boxes come in sizes of 3, 6 and 12 bottles 750ml or 1, 2 and 3 bottles magnum (1.5 litres and bigger). Please note, that the quantity ordered therefore has to be dividable with these numbers in order to fill up a box.
• Shipment address: you can of course choose to ship your wine to whichever address you prefer, but we strongly advise that you choose a business address. The carrier needs to be able to handover the wine directly to an adult (not a PO Box), and if there is nobody at the delivery address the wine risks to remain in a van or warehouse for a longer period of time or even being send back to us. In case of re-shipment because of nobody to receive, you will be charged for the 2nd shipment.
• Air service: for all non-European shipments the wine is shipped by air for fastest delivery. You have the possibility of choosing whether you want express delivery or groupage delivery.
• Shipping days: Enoteca la Fortezza di Montalcino can ship all days Monday-Friday.
• Adverse weather conditions: if the wine is exposed to adverse weather conditions (very warm or very cold weather) it might be damaged. This is why we will not ship wine into any area where we have knowledge of such temporary conditions.
• Weather hold notification: if we because of adverse weather conditions are unable to ship your wine within the estimated time, we will let you know by e-mail. When the conditions are normal again we will ship your wine.
• Tracking number: once your wine has been handed over to our shipper, he is in control of the shipping. Therefore, if you would like to know the tracking number and/or the whereabouts of your shipment please contact info@enotecalafortezza.com.
• Containers: we always ship all your wine in boxes made especially for shipment of wine. That way we can ensure the safest trip for your wine.
• Legal Age: by using our website you represent to us that you are of legal age as per the rules in your country. Enoteca la Fortezza is not allowed to sell and ship wine to persons that are not of legal age and/or (but not limited to) intoxicated persons.
• Legal Age Requirements for USA: we can sell and deliver wine on the American market only to a person who is at least 21 years old. By placing an order on our web site you represent to us that you are at least 21 years old and the person to whom the wine will be delivered is also 21 years old. At the time of delivery any shipment containing alcoholic beverages will by law require the signature of an adult possessing a valid ID issued by a government agency proving that he or she is a least 21 years old. If no one of legal age is available to receive the delivery, a note will be left with a contact phone number for you to call and make agreements for a subsequent delivery. No deliveries will be made to a visibly intoxicated person. We recommend that you use a business address to assure fastest delivery time. Should it not be possible to make delivery to a person of legal age and you do not make agreements with the carrier of a second attempt, the shipment will be returned to us. For re-delivery you will have to pay the costs for a second shipment attempt.
• Customs/duties: shipment of wine into some countries requires payment of customs/duties. If you are unsure whether this is the case in your destination country, please feel free to contact us for information.
